What is Massage?

Massage therapy is a hands-on technique in which a trained therapist manipulates muscle and connective tissue to positively influence the health and well-being of the client. Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing and dates back nearly 4,000 years. With regular massage therapy treatments people will experience great benefits to all systems of the body including the musculoskeletal, nervous, lymphatic and circulatory system. Various techniques are used in massage ranging from long, gliding relaxation strokes to more site-specific, focused deep tissue work to address muscle tension, strain and limited range of motion. In addition to generalized therapeutic massage, several specialized massage modalities are available to help treat people with chronic pain and illnesses.
